The Beauty of Capturing Memories

When we dreamed up Ujima Retreat Center, we weren’t just thinking about a space to rest. We wanted a place where people could step away from the noise of life and truly live in the moment. A place where memories aren’t rushed or forgotten, but treasured.
Some of my favorite moments at Ujima aren’t the big planned ones—they’re the simple memories: a family laughing around a firepit, a group swimming in the pond, or someone finally exhaling after weeks of holding it all in. These are the moments that stick. These are the ones that change us.

Why Memories Matter
We take pictures, we post on social media, but what really stays with us are the feelings. That deep belly laugh. That quiet moment under the stars. That sense of “I belong here.”
At Ujima, we focus on creating experiences that anchor those feelings—so when you leave, you don’t just have photos, you carry a new rhythm, a memory that reshapes how you move forward.
Ways to make your retreat experience stand out:
Capture sunrise or sunset views for dramatic lighting.
Use all your senses to experience the natural surroundings.
Highlight moments of interaction, such as group discussions or yoga sessions.
Experiment with different perspectives like being close up or looking beyond at the vast fields.

How Much Does a Retreat Cost?
We try to make retreat experiences accessible while offering something for every stage of life:
Individuals & Couples – from $89 for day retreats for those who need to recharge, reflect, or reconnect.
Families – from $300 per weekend, designed to strengthen bonds and create traditions together.
Groups & Organizations – custom packages starting around $400, perfect for wellness retreats, leadership gatherings, or team-building in nature.
Activities and Workshops - Specialized sessions like yoga, meditation, or therapy may have additional fees.
Duration - Longer retreats generally cost more but offer deeper immersion.

Tips for Creating Lasting Memories
Over the years, I’ve noticed a few simple practices that turn a retreat into something unforgettable:
Be fully present – Even if just for an hour, set your phone aside. Let nature, laughter, and stillness be your focus.
Make your own ritual – Journal in the morning, sip tea on the porch, or take a nightly walk. These little routines turn into sacred memories.
Capture feelings, not just photos or videos – Write down how a moment felt. Trust me, reading it back later will take you right there again.
Do something together – Cook, hike, or just share stories. Connection deepens when we create side by side.
Take the memory home – Choose one practice you started here—like gratitude journaling or mindful breathing—and carry it back into your daily life.
Where Memories Become Legacy
For me, Ujima isn’t just a retreat center—it’s a legacy. It’s about holding space for people to breathe, to connect, and to remember what truly matters.
The most beautiful part? Memories made here don’t stay here. They travel with you—into your family, your friendships, your community. And little by little, they shape a better story for all of us.
So when you’re ready to create moments that last, know that Ujima will be here—waiting to hold space for your memories.

Stay Rooted,
Shanelle
